DESIGNING A PROPTECH IT SYSTEM FOR NREP
NREP is a vertically integrated real estate product innovator, developer, investor and operator that seeks to make real estate better. NREP takes a multi-stakeholder approach and with its multidisciplinary team develops real estate and real estate anchored businesses that create long-term value for tenants, investors and the wider communities in which NREP invests.
In 2017 NREP contracted IWA to help them in designing the IT system for its future business concept, which is still in stealth-mode. We took responsibility for turning NREP’s innovative ideas into a defined service concept and meticulously crafted IT architecture plan.
“Working with IWA has allowed us to focus on business innovation while they have distilled our ideas into a well-defined web-service and IT architecture. IWA’s strong vision for human-centric usability and practical technical solutions allowed us to receive a fully actionable plan for the IT system for our future business.”

HOW WE GOT STARTED
The project started in the summer of 2017 with a kick-off workshop lead by IWA’s CEO Rami Korhonen, who has 20-years experience in designing digital services. At the kick-off workshop IWA and NREP agreed on the project management processes and started to:
- Design User Personas
- List Required Features
- Identify Potential Risks
- Define Project Success Criteria
- Create Customer Journeys
After the kick-off workshop, IWA’s UX designer Niko Sandelin and Senior Software Architect Aki Teliö took charge of taking the project forward from IWA’s side. The parties settled on a 2-week sprint cycle and started the challenging and inspiring work.
After the preliminary definition of personas and customer journeys, our UX designer Niko started to create interactive wireframes which formed the basis for further usability iterations. Simultaneously IWA’s software architect Aki commenced the planning of the micro-service based system architecture for the service.
After five months of active work, IWA presented NREP with a fully actionable plan for the new PropTech IT system architecture and dynamic wireframes for a human-centric web service both for consumers and business users.
“Majority of IWA’s work is done in the PropTech and CleanTech sectors. Working with NREP gave us a unique opportunity to work with their extremely talented team in developing a revolutionary new service for city-dwellers. We can’t wait to see their fantastic innovation come to light in 2019”, explains Rami Korhonen, CEO & Co-Founder of IWA.
